One square, drawn again

RAYLISSM makes one shape: a 55 cm square of printed fabric. Everything else in the shop — the bucket hats, the totes, the scarf rings — exists so that square can go further.

Why only a square

A bandana is the most flexible thing you can wear. Fold it corner to corner and it sits at your neck. Roll it and it holds your hair, wraps a wrist or a bag handle. Fold it small and it goes in a pocket. We wanted a label that took that one object seriously, so the shop is organised around it: twelve ways to wear it, and prints that look good folded as well as flat.

How the prints are made

Each of the 26 prints is drawn for RAYLISSM as a complete square, border included, so the corners still read when the bandana is folded into a triangle. They fall into three families:

• Paisley, redrawn — the old teardrop motif drawn again with fat brush lines, halftone dots, pixels or as one giant drop.
• Street — spray gestures, paint drips, stencils, chalk and marker doodles, without a single readable word or brand.
• City maps — cities that do not exist: rings of canals, a harbour grid, a night bus network, rooftops seen from above.

We do not copy or adapt other labels’ monograms, sports team crests, logos or existing printed fabrics. If you think something we sell resembles your work, email us and we will look at it straight away.

One print, head to bag

Eight prints also come as a bucket hat and eight as a tote, cut from the same artwork as the bandana. On those product pages you will find a wear formula: bandana + hat + tote = one print. They are priced separately; the formula simply adds them to your bag together.
